Agent skill for Claude Code, Codex and Cursor

The open-source Go Motion skill lets your coding agent make a video for you: it writes the script, you approve it in the chat, and Go Motion produces the voice, captions and footage and renders the MP4 into your project folder. Same account, same credits, every paid step confirmed first.

  • Claude Code · Codex · Cursor
  • Same credits as the studio

What the skill does

The skill is a small open-source package your coding agent reads: a SKILL.md with the workflow and a zero-dependency script that talks to the Go Motion API with your own API key. You describe the video in the chat; the agent creates the draft, asks you to approve each paid step, shows you the script, and ends with an MP4 and caption files in your project folder.

The agent drives the same pipeline as the studio with your account; production runs on Go Motion's servers.

Everything is billed in the same credits at the same prices as the studio, and nothing runs without your yes: the API refuses a paid step unless the agent sends the amount you accepted. Edits after production, such as swapping a picture or restyling the captions, stay in the studio.

Before you start

  • A Go Motion account with credits. New accounts start with free credits; packs are on the pricing page.
  • An API key from Settings → API keys. A key gives the same access as your account, so keep it out of chats and repositories, and delete it there if it leaks.
  • Node.js 18 or newer on your computer, and one of Claude Code, Codex or Cursor.
  • A topic in a sentence or two, or a script you already wrote.

Install the skill

  1. 1

    Install with one command

Run it in the project where you want the videos. Add -g to make the skill available everywhere, and -a claude-code, -a codex or -a cursor to pick one agent.

  2. 2

    Or clone it by hand

The skill is a folder with a SKILL.md; put it where your agent looks for skills: ~/.claude/skills/gomotion for Claude Code, ~/.agents/skills/gomotion for Codex, ~/.cursor/skills/gomotion for Cursor.

  3. 3

    Check it is there

In Claude Code, type /gomotion; in Codex, type $gomotion. The agent shows the skill and its description.

bash
npx skills add gomotionai/gomotion-skill

# or by hand, for Claude Code
git clone https://github.com/gomotionai/gomotion-skill ~/.claude/skills/gomotion
Source: github.com/gomotionai/gomotion-skill. The short link gomotion-ai.app/skill opens the same page.

Add your API key

  1. 1

    Create a key

Open Settings → API keys, choose Create key, name it after the computer it will live on, and copy it.

  2. 2

    Put it in your shell

Add the line below to ~/.zshrc or ~/.bashrc and open a new terminal, so every agent session finds it.

  3. 3

    Try it

Ask the agent for your Go Motion balance. It runs the skill's me command and answers with your credits.

bash
export GOMOTION_API_KEY=sk_your_key_here

Your first video

Say what you want the way you would brief a writer: the hook, the facts to include, the audience, the tone, the length and the format. Then confirm each step when the agent asks.

  1. 1

    Describe the video

For example: Make a 60-second 16:9 explainer about why octopuses have three hearts, curious and friendly, for a science channel. The agent creates a free draft and shows the price of writing the script.

  2. 2

    Review scenes

Writing costs 10 credits per minute. Say yes, and a minute later the agent shows you the scenes. Ask for changes in plain language; edits are free.

  3. 3

    Produce

Production records the voice, times the captions and finds footage for every scene: 30 credits per minute, confirmed first. It takes a few minutes for a one-minute video.

  4. 4

    Export

The 1080p MP4 costs 5 credits per minute. The agent waits for the render and downloads the MP4 with SRT and VTT captions into a gomotion folder in your project.

  5. 5

    Keep editing in the studio

The agent's report ends with a link to the series in the studio, where you can swap pictures, restyle captions, re-voice a line or make a thumbnail.

For developers: the API behind the skill

The skill is a thin client of the public API. Every call carries your key as a bearer token. Every paid endpoint takes either dryRun: true for the quote or maxCredits, the most credits you accept: the server quotes, charges and starts the job in one request, and answers 409 QUOTE_EXCEEDS_BUDGET when the price is above that amount or 402 INSUFFICIENT_CREDITS when the balance is too low.

Continue in the studio

A video made by the agent is an ordinary series in your account. Open it from the link in the agent's report or from the studio and edit it like any other: see Edit your video and Thumbnails.

If something goes wrong

  • The key is missing or refused (401). Create a key on Settings → API keys, put it in GOMOTION_API_KEY and open a new terminal.
  • Not enough credits (402). The agent tells you how many credits the step needs; buy a pack on the pricing page and say so.
  • The price is above what you allowed (`QUOTE_EXCEEDS_BUDGET`). Longer videos cost more; confirm the new amount and the agent retries.
  • A step failed. Its credits come back automatically; ask the agent to try again.
  • Codex says the network is blocked. Codex's sandbox blocks network access by default: approve running the command outside the sandbox, or start Codex with -c 'sandbox_workspace_write.network_access=true'.
  • You want to change the video after production. Open it in the studio; the skill only creates, produces and exports.

Common questions

Do I need a paid plan?

No plan, just credits. New accounts get free credits to try; after that, buy a pack on the pricing page. The skill cannot spend more than the amount you confirm for each step.

Which agents are supported?

Claude Code, Codex and Cursor read the same skill folder. Anything that follows the open agent skills format and can run a Node.js script works.

Where do the files go?

Into a gomotion folder in the project you are working in: the MP4 plus SRT and VTT captions.

Can the agent make videos in other languages?

Yes, the same languages the studio offers; tell it the language and it picks a voice. See Create a series.

Is my key safe?

Treat it like a password: the skill never prints it, and you can delete it on the API keys page at any time.
